Hot Day at the Beach!
Thursday and Friday packed some serious heat here at the Waterfront Center: with the thermometer reaching upwards of 90 degrees, it was a great time to be cooling off on - or in - the water. Thursday, I tagged along with Ms. Ventiri’s class from Gatelot Elementary School, who were excited for their annual Beach Day, and didn’t seem to mind the climbing temperature. The enthusiastic group of first-graders began their day with a beach story, read by Education Director and instructor Dennis. While one of the students helped model the necessities required for a day at the beach - a hat, sunblock, and water - the other students listened attentively and prepared for their own seaside adventure.
The rest of the day was packed with activities: beach-combing for art materials, self-portrait making, and meeting the sea animals. The students had a wonderful day, and had various responses when asked what their favorite activity was - it seemed, though, that most of the kids were content just about anywhere near the water!
