Meet the Summer Instructors Part VII

Meet Your Sailing Instructors: Andries and Patrick
This summer, Andries Feder is excited to join the WaterFront Center as a Junior Instructor. Andries, 17, is an avid sailor from Oyster Bay who has essentially grown up on the water, and when asked how long he’s been sailing, simply responds, “A while.” Andries is entering his junior year at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA, where he plays water polo and studies hard. Andries says that he is excited to teach sailing this summer because “I love sailing and I wanted to share my experience”, and is looking forward to spending time with the kids on the water. We are excited to have Andries on board, and look forward to seeing him share his knowledge this summer!

Favorite flavor ice-cream: Ben & Jerry’s Late Night Snack
What he enjoys about sailing: Racing, Offshore sailing
If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?: “I kind of like where I live.”
Last but certainly not least is Patrick Morris, from Old Brookville, NY, another instructor with an avid interest in the sport of sailing. Patrick, who graduated from Boston College in 2009 with degrees in Philosophy and Economics, says, “I always admired my coaches and looked forward to being in that position myself.” When he’s not racing, Patrick enjoys skiing, running, and riding his bike, and says that he hardly ever has a free weekend because he enjoys getting out on the water or hitting the slopes as much as possible. Patrick says he is looking forward to meeting many different young sailors, and, “being able to see them progress quickly throughout the two weeks.” Sailing, he says, is about “the people and the teamwork”, as well as communication: “...it’s a true team sport and everyone has their own jobs.” We are sure Patrick will share a lot of great experience this summer!
